YES, LORD, I BELIEVE
Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live” (John 11:25). This is the hope of the Christian. We are in eternal life, not waiting for it. We are in resurrection power, not looking for it. We shall never die. We are alive—now and forever. However, there is a condition.
Jesus also said, “And everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:26) That is the condition. No other self-supposed or self-imposed condition is required. We shall live because we believe. We must believe and believe what we believe.
This conversation was with Martha, whose brother Lazarus had died and Jesus pointedly asked her about this never dying thing and said, “Do you believe this?” She answered, “Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, and the one coming into the world” (Matthew 11:27). This we too must believe. No options. No multiple choices. No opinions. No traditions and myths. It is, “Yes, Lord, I believe.”
Whatever else we may believe, whether relevant, important, silly or just preference; so be it, but we must believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, the Son of God, the resurrection and the life… or we are not disciples of Jesus.
“But who do you say that I am?” Jesus
