FIGHT UNTIL IT’S OVER I
In Hebrews 2 we are given a great victory message. We are told that Jesus through his death has destroyed the devil, death (the fear of death), and sin. These are the three enemies of every person as long as we live. Though the ‘power of death’ is destroyed, the reality of death, or the fear of death might remain. It is the reason that people “who were held in slavery all their lives by the fear of death can now be free” (Hebrews 2:15). Jesus has made “atonement for the sins of the people” (2:17).
Though this work has been done, we are still here in an imperfect world to fight against the same three enemies. The devil, death and sin. They are defeated by the Lord and we must learn to fight until the fight is over. “Lead us not into temptation…”
We of course will be tempted by Satan, become fearful of death and commit sins, both intentionally and unintentionally. But we are told to fight with faith. John, an apostle, wrote, “For this is what love for God is: to keep his commands. And his commands are not a burden, because everyone who has been born of God conquers the world. This is the victory that has conquered the world: our faith” (1 John 5:3-5).
“To the one who conquers I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne.” Jesus
