BEAUTY AND BREAD
John Muir (1938-1914) naturalist and author wrote:
“Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where Nature may heal and cheer and give strength to body and soul alike.”
(From ‘The Yosemite’)
It is interesting how nature becomes a healer by simply being available. I believe the Lord has healed me many times with a walk in the forest, an afternoon on a rock by a stream, sitting horseback and watching new calves, or quietly watching a sunset with my girlfriend. Perhaps just showing up in the woods is a kind of prayer.
Muir also said, “Of all the paths you take in life, make sure a few of them are dirt.”
I’m headed over to the other side of the Pond to have some Cuban Coffee and Golden Bread with Butter and homemade Apricot Jam. I want ripples to go out from the Pond from what happens at the Pond, ‘where Nature may heal and cheer and give strength to body and soul alike.’ May the Pond ripple your way today.
“Yes, I am the bread of life! Your ancestors ate manna in the wilderness, but they all died. Anyone who eats the bread from heaven, however, will never die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and this bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is my flesh.” Jesus
