PAPER NOR PLASTIC
If we take our own bags to go shopping, it will reduce the average American family using 350 bags per year of paper or plastic.
Common plastic grocery bags decompose in about 5-10 years and the microplastics from them are here for centuries. A plastic water bottle used about 20 minutes will decompose in 450 years. A plastic straw used about 10 minutes will decompose in 200 years. A plastic toothbrush used about 3 months will decompose in 500 years. ‘A disposable diaper takes about 500 years to decompose. Between birth and toilet training, a baby will use over 6,000 disposable diapers. 18 billion disposable diapers are used in the US each year, making up 30 percent of all our non-biodegradable landfill waste.’ (Down to Earth.org) They all leave the same microplastics in the environment. These plastic items all have alternative products that could be used.
So, if it’s a choice between paper and plastic, we must choose between the two. Taking our own bags is best.
There is the Kingdom way and the Plastic way.
“And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own? How can you think of saying, ‘Friend, let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye?” Jesus
