THE CONDITIONAL CLAUSE
“This is a faithful saying:
If we die with Him,
we shall also live with Him.
If we endure,
we shall also reign with Him.
If we deny Him,
He also will deny us.
If we are faithless,
He remains faithful;
He cannot deny Himself.”
(2 Timothy 2:11-13)
Each of the phrases used to introduce a thought in this scripture begin with ‘if we.’ If… is a ‘conditional clause,’ expressing that a situation or event needs to happen for another to occur. (Online Dictionary) I don’t know a conditional clause from a hair dryer, but it is obvious it means a condition of some kind or is conditional in purpose. For example: ‘If you help me move, I will buy you a nice cold bottle of V-8 Juice.’ Another example: “If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.”
“If you love me, you will obey my commandments.” Jesus
