OUT THERE, IN HERE
What goes on ‘out there’ in the world of media, movies, sports, videos, business, books, art, churches, music, etc. concerns me a great deal, but not nearly as much as me a named Christian saying or doing so little to make things different ‘in here’…in me. Not only that, perhaps not being just as involved in oppositional things as those who profess and confess nothing would be to confess something. They are called Nones (someone who identifies as having “no religion” or is religiously unaffiliated). But then what are we to be called if we do nothing, Christian Nones? It’s time to show up, speak up, or shut up. It must happen ‘in here’ before it can happen ‘out there.’
“The world of news journalism has unfortunately been swallowed up in opinion journalism. Now the news is a self-fulfilling prophecy; you will likely read what you want to read,” wrote Cole Feix, pastor and author.
I so agree with Feix on opinion journalism and the trouble I see with it is that it can so easily translate from a journalist or news channel opinion to ‘my opinion’ without much inquiry. From out there; to in here.
I saw a ball cap with this on the front: Make Lying Wrong Again. Jesus said something similar:
“My message is not my own; it comes from God who sent me. Anyone who wants to do the will of God will know whether my teaching is from God or is merely my own. Those who speak for themselves want glory only for themselves, but a person who seeks to honor the one who sent him speaks truth, not lies.” Jesus
