HELD IN SLAVERY
Paul, an apostle, wrote in Hebrews 2:14-15:
“Since the children have flesh and blood, he (Jesus) too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.”
In this chapter of Hebrews we famously and thankfully agree that our Lord Jesus Christ conquered and destroyed ‘sin, the devil and death.’ This was the big three and is still the big three. But if a gospel message only speaks of the ‘deliverance from sin’ and not the other two we are left holding our tail and struggling. Or, we are still ‘held in slavery by fear of death.’ We stay as slaves until we have been set free.
Jesus said that it is ‘truth that sets us free.’ (John 8:32) The truth is Jesus. But this can be so ambiguous as to not be practical. Something must be experienced a certain way to become reality. We must know in our spirit that that we have authority over the devil and the demonic and have power over death by believing in eternal life in the New Creation. Otherwise, we may be delivered from sin and still enslaved in fear of the devil and death. Jesus broke this power of fear.
“So if the son sets you free, you will be really free.” Jesus
