PROCLAIMING GOD’S GLORY
“The heavens proclaim the glory of God.
The skies display his craftsmanship.
Day after day they continue to speak;
night after night they make him known.
They speak without a sound or word;
their voice is never heard.
Yet their message has gone throughout the earth,
and their words to all the world.
God has made a home in the heavens for the sun.
It bursts forth like a radiant bridegroom after his wedding.
It rejoices like a great athlete eager to run the race.
The sun rises at one end of the heavens
and follows its course to the other end.
Nothing can hide from its heat.” (Psalm19:1-6)
I certainly like the poetry of the Psalms and the cadence of lines that include the grandeur of heavenly skies and the mystery of the sun. The Psalmist says they are ‘proclaiming the glory of God.’
I must confess that I enjoy a night sky, a sunset and sunrise and the quietness they bring, ‘without a sound or a word.’ But I must also say they do not particularly cause me any extra goosebumpery. I suppose it is just so high, out there, deep turning orbits of worlds without end… I’m lost. What I appreciate is that this bright sun and night sky form a covering for a stand of Aspens, mixed with Blue Spruce and speckled with outgrowths of Ponderosa Pines near a meadow with a running creek and a Mule Deer with her twin babies in tow.
This has greater possibility for me to give glory to the Lord for some reason.
“Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?” Jesus
