CHILD OF GOD
John, an apostle, wrote: “He (Jesus) came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him. He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.” (John 1:10-13)
If we have become a ‘child of God’ it means we also have ‘believed and accepted him.’ We have been reborn with a spiritual birth, a re-birth or ‘born again from above.’ We surely need to be happy believers because of what has happened to us… no one would want or believe to be an unhappy believer.
Just like Jesus, we need to hear the Father say, “A voice came from heaven and said, “You are my much-loved son. I am very happy with you.” (Luke 3:22) Until we hear that we will probably be religious, ‘try harder,’ buy another multi-colored highlighted Bible, join another study group and go to another conference to ‘become acceptable’ to God. But then again, if we can see God as Father we can see ourselves as children. As Andy Taylor says, ‘The Father did not want a congregation, he wanted a family and that’s why we are called children.’
“I tell you the truth, everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, the Son of Man will also acknowledge in the presence of God’s angels.” Jesus
