FREE FLOATING
In Genesis 6 we read the story about the Lord and Noah. “The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. So the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.” But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.” (vs. 5-8) That’s scary stuff. The next section Noah is told to build an Ark and is given exact instructions.
“Build a large boat (ark) from cypress wood (gopher) and waterproof it with tar, inside and out. Then construct decks and stalls throughout its interior. Make the boat 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high. Leave an 18-inch opening below the roof all the way around the boat. Put the door on the side, and build three decks inside the boat—lower, middle, and upper.” (vs.14-16)
It has always been of interest to me that Noah was not told how to steer it, guide it, program it, sail it, or navigate it in any way. It went where the Lord wanted it to go… we must take a lesson from the Ark. Trust the Lord to guide us and direct us without our own manipulation. We learn to freely float and go where the Lord takes us. It must have been much easier for Noah than for me. This is an amazing story of faith and obedience. I don’t particularly like open waters, boats or fish or oceans or seas or fish tacos. I do like free floating… just not in big boats. No, not free loading…free floating.
“When the Son of Man returns, it will be like it was in Noah’s day.” Jesus
