IT’S THE THOUGHT
‘It’s the thought that counts’ is a familiar quote. But it could also be a thought that counts for very little. Maybe it was not well thought out, perhaps even thought provoking, or it could be something that was thoughtless.
If it’s the thought that counts, we really need to think about it. Otherwise we just go on blabbing the same old clichés and parodies. This could mean we may not have thought something through very well. It might be like picking off some clever thought from the Internet without it being our thought but is really someone else’s. Even if it is a good one it does not mean that perhaps we have given much time and processing to the thought.
Perhaps it is the action that really counts. It is difficult to have thoughts that count if there are no identifiable actions to go with the thoughts. One usually comes before the other. But obvious action needs to follow even if the action is to wave off the thought. We first think about Tacos Carbon and then go have them. Or try to stop thinking about them. Process complete.
“But don’t begin until you count the cost.” Jesus
