BAPTIZED INTO THE WORLD
In the night recently I heard the term: ‘Jesus was baptized into the world.’ As I meditated on this it became apparent to me there was an obvious reason that I had not seen contrasted before. In Matthew 3, John the Baptist proclaimed: “I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire” (3:11).
Jesus was baptized into the world,
A baptism into the humility of humanity.
We are baptized into the Spirit world,
A baptism into the humility of the Spirit.
Paul, an apostle, wrote: “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God” (1 Corinthians 2:12).
