THE BODY
Paul, an apostle, wrote: “If each part of the body were the same part, there would be no body. But truly God put the parts in the body, as he wanted them. He made a place for each one of them. And so there are many parts, but only one body.” (1 Corinthians 12:19-20)
The Body concept has been a tough one from the beginning because it appears that each part has had a tendency to think it is the most important. This caused the breakaway movements of First Church of the Eye, First Church of the Hand, First Church of the Foot, First Church of the Elbow, and then there was a church split at First Church of the Foot and now we also have First Church of the Big Toe. No wonder the Body is without the unity intended. It is a Body with Body Parts that make up one Body. Paul concludes: “All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is part of it.” (v.27) Not… First Church of the Kneecap.
“But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it. How strange a body would be if it had only one part! Yes, there are many parts, but only one body.” (vs. 18-20)
“To love, our brothers and sisters, does not mean we have to agree. But maybe agreeing to love is the greatest agreement,” (Someone has said). If we don’t agree to love it matters little what else we might agree upon.
“Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” Jesus
