MORE LAW OF THE LORD
Back to yesterday’s Journal and The Law of the Lord…
“The Law of the Lord is perfect,
converting the soul…
The teachings of the LORD are perfect;
they give new strength… (Psalm 19:7)
Verses 7-9 proclaim that the Law of the Lord is perfect, strong, trusted, wise, right, happy, pure, light, and good forever, true and right again. These are wonderful delights to read and sing and claim.
But then I got to verse 10:
“They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb.” (19:10)
I’m not sure I understand that level of enjoyment from the Law of the Lord. I understand the sweet poetic phrase, but not so sure about the reality. ‘Fine gold’ is a tough competitor. I would like to test my desire between the Law and fine gold. I have the Law…I need the gold for the experiment. Honey and honey comb… not so much of a challenge.
What I do understand is verses 12-13:
“How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart?
Cleanse me from these hidden faults.
Keep your servant from deliberate sins!
Don’t let them control me.
Then I will be free of guilt
and innocent of great sin.” (19:12-13)
It causes one to cry out verse 14:
“May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.” (19:14) Have mercy dear Lord.
“But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.” Jesus
