RECOVERY OF VIRTUE
The last four entries in the Journal have been intentionally direct concerning Gossip and Slander.
It is because I see it as an evil and destructive force that has come upon our society and culture and in our cultural divide there have been other divisions. Part of the fifty-fifty division (taking sides) has also been a dreadful amount of bad-mouthing. We may call it ‘having opinion’ or ‘making a point’ or whatever… but when we bash and blabber destructively concerning others it is Gossip and Slander. It is not the Kingdom way… it is the other way.
The recovery of virtue is to recapture living in truth and integrity without compromise. It is to practice honesty… deal truthfully… flee deception and exaggeration… no lying… no faking it. It is refusing to listen to or to feed on Gossip and Slander. Perhaps through repentance a recovery can begin with goodness, righteousness, morality, moral excellence, honor, fairness, equity, fidelity and this might push us further into: “the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!” (Galatians 5:22-23)
I am not trying to bum everyone out but I am trying to forcefully present what I consider to be a tragic moral failure in our society, culture and the church that must be fixed: The Recovery of Virtue.
“Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in me.” Jesus
