GOSSIP AND SLANDER II
Gossip and Slander are forms of the evil report. Evil reports influence us to form bad opinions of each other.
Definitions of this issue:
Gossip- is to magnify and sensationalize rumors.
“A gossip goes about telling secrets, but one who is trustworthy in spirit keeps a confidence.”
(Proverbs 11:13)
“A gossip reveals secrets; therefore do not associate with a babbler.” (Proverbs 20:19)
“They were filled with every kind of injustice, evil, covetousness, malice. Full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, craftiness, they are gossips…” (Romans 1:29)
“For I fear that when I come I may find you not as I wish and that you may find me not as you wish; I fear that there may perhaps be quarreling, jealousy, anger, selfishness, slander, gossip, conceit, and disorder.”
(2 Corinthians 12:20)
“Besides that, they learn to be idle, gadding about from house to house, and they are not merely idle but also gossips and busybodies, saying what they should not say.” (1 Timothy 5:13)
“Like an arrow stuck in a person’s thigh, so is gossip in the belly of a fool.” (Sirach 19:12 Apocrypha)
Gossip comes from the disintegration of virtue and with this comes the disintegration of society.
“But when the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth.” Jesus
