COMPARISONS

I think there is need to be on the alert concerning Comparisons. There is always need for discernment. Discernment is carefully being wise. But comparisons usually have a mature or an immature ego involved. Any time we compare, it should be made in comparison to Christ and not so much to others.

Making Comparison is for two reasons: One, to feel superior to someone else, and two, to feel inferior to someone else. This is usually an attempt to gain identity for our self by building our self up or gain the opposite identity tearing down our self from inferiority.

Paul, an apostle, wrote: “For we are not bold to class or compare ourselves with some of those who commend themselves; but when they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are without understanding. But we will not boast beyond our measure, but within the measure of the sphere which God apportioned to us as a measure, to reach even as far as you.”
(2 Corinthians 10:11-13)

We can only make comparison to what is Christ and Christ-like. It is not easy but it is the only way to stay pure, loving and humble. Twisted egos are a magnet for religious and corrupted identities and comparisons usually follow. To live at peace within our own heads and hearts is to learn to not falsely and corruptly compare. Pride is born out of comparison.

“Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and was praying this to himself: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get.’ But the tax collector, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, the sinner!’ I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.” Jesus
