ALL WORK IS VALUABLE

Paul, an apostle, wrote:
“So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.” (1 Corinthians 15:58)

Brother Lawrence (1614-1691) was a French Christian Monk. He was poor and uneducated and entered a monastery late. He spent the rest of his life with the Paris community, where his primary assignments were working in the kitchen and, in his later years, repairing sandals. He was famous for his joy, wisdom and patience and never complaining. His collected thoughts and teachings were recorded as ‘The Practice of the Presence of God.’ This book has influenced hundreds of thousands for centuries… including me. All work is valuable.

I recently read of a couple of professional women in a Texas city that take a daily walk each morning for forty minutes and then pick up trash for twenty. People who pick up trash are valuable… very valuable. Maybe these two women are the real evangelist, prophets, apostles, teachers or pastors.

I think a lot of things we do don’t always seem very valuable. Especially mundane daily, go through the routine, living. I have also discovered that this very routine with discipline, purpose and example are valuable to others and us. It can all be good… if it is done ‘enthusiastically for the Lord.’ It just doesn’t always seem so.

“Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!” Jesus
