COMING TO REST
Coming to rest is no small thing and even the thing that needs rested needs clarification. It may be our mind, or body, emotional stress or lousy sleep habits. Whatever is tired needs rest.
Peace and rest have to do with our soul. It comes from being alone with our thoughts, after we get over being afraid of being alone with our thoughts. If we cannot comfortably be alone with ourselves… we must in some ways be uncomfortable with ourselves. I believe it comes from being afraid of what we think and say to ourselves when alone. If I am afraid of me, I am surely insecure in many other ways.
When our souls come to rest, we can be at rest. I guess we just have to find out: Turn off our phone (Ha-Ha), go sit by a quiet river for two hours, breathe in-breathe out, start with forgiveness and end with forgiveness. Have a piece of quality peppered beef jerky and 12 ounces of sparkling water. We should be good to go.
“Come away by yourselves, and we will go to a lonely place to get some rest.” Jesus
