THE CALLING # 2

The Calling is first of all a forthright call of the Father to all people to be followers of Jesus Christ his Son. Since the Cross there is no other special plan, special people, special nation, special message or special calling, only this: “Yet to all who received Him, He gave the power to become sons of God, to those who believed in His name, who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” (John 1:12-13)

All of those who accept “and believe in his name” are formed into union with any others who have done the same. This is where we get the word ‘church’ (ecclesia in Greek) which means ‘the called out ones.’ The church is also called a body and any followers of Jesus are parts of this body.

The term calling becomes a definition of the life of faith like in the Bible. It is those who have chosen to be disciples of Jesus. To be ‘a called one’ is to also become ‘a follower of Way’ (Acts 24:14) Jesus is the Way. (John 14:6)
