NEW THINGS
Cole Feix, pastor and author wrote:
“There’s a trend throughout Scripture of starting – dedicating – new things to the Lord. The firstborn is devoted to the Lord (Exodus 13:2). The first fruits of crops are given to God (Deuteronomy 26). When Noah steps out onto the new earth, the first thing he does is build an altar and have a worship service to the Lord (Genesis 8:20). This trend continues through the Passover, temple worship, and into the New Testament. In fact, this same language is used to describe Jesus as the firstborn from the dead, the oldest of many siblings, and the head of the church (Colossians 1:15f; Romans 8:29).
The principle is simple: when you start something, dedicate it to the Lord. Have God’s purpose in mind for every new beginning. Stop and consider God in every goal, plan and achievement. The same is true with every new year. We start the year by devoting ourselves, our goals, families, ventures and new beginnings to God.”
