BETRAYAL

Just before The Last Supper, we read that Judas agrees to betray Jesus. Not long after Judas we see where Peter also denied Jesus. We don’t know for sure about the others. When we are afraid we may do many strange though predictable things.

Judas had been with Jesus for three years as one of his twelve disciples. It’s a painful, tragic event containing so many lessons. Here’s one of them: Being around Jesus doesn’t automatically mean Jesus is forming us. Being around Christians and church doesn’t either… though it may help.

Being betrayed by trusted spiritual leaders is one the most devastating things that can happen to an individual. It is like divorce, disease and death all tied together. It is a wonder anyone makes it through it.

A quote I’m chewing on today: “If tonight I was having my last meal, I sure wouldn’t want to spend it with someone who was going to betray me: Love did.”

I don’t think I would. I don’t know love that well.
