SONS OF GREECE AND SONS OF ZION
Greek humanism clearly affected the spiritual thinking of the followers of Jesus for a long time. Having solid ‘facts’ and ‘historical correctness’ has made the head full of knowledge and the heart empty of passion. Knowledge has never matured anyone. Many think that much knowledge can mature and make one wise in the ‘things of God,’ but this is only the layers and layers of Greek thought beaming through into the present to give the same delusion it always has. It quickly takes one back to the original humanism, ‘You will be like God’ …or gods (Genesis 3:5). What we must know in our knowing is Jesus.
We are in a great period of mercy and grace from the Lord. This is the time spoken of by Zechariah, ‘I will raise up your sons, O Zion, against your sons, O Greece…” (9:13). The ‘sons of Greece’ are those who embrace the deception of humanism and spiritual mixture…calling everything ‘truth.’ The ‘sons of Zion’ are those who take their stand upon the words of Jesus and the infallible Word of God.
We are faced with a powerful challenge in this time: Will we stand with Greece or Zion? Numerically, the forces of humanism vastly outnumber Christians. Nevertheless, we can take courage from the example of Asa, king of Judah. Facing an invasion by an overwhelmingly superior army, his prayer of desperation turned sure defeat into total victory. For us today, his prayer provides a wonderful pattern with which to counter the self-exalting forces of humanism.
“Lord, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, O Lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army. O Lord, you are our God; do not let man prevail against you.” (2 Chronicles 14:11 NIV)
“Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.” Jesus
