A CERTAIN WAY OF KNOWING

There is special word in scripture that defines perfectly the special relationship people can have with each other after receiving the Holy Spirit. The Greek word is koinonia and is commonly called fellowship:

‘Koinonia can be defined as “holding something in common” and is specifically used 20 times in the New Testament (e.g. Philippians 2:1-2, Acts 2:42, 1 John 1:6-7). Koinonia describes the unity of the Spirit that comes from Christians’ shared beliefs, convictions, and behaviors.’ (Grace Seminary)

The text from Acts 2:42 is a good example: “All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship (koinonia), and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper]), and to prayer.”

Ester Perel, psychotherapist, has made famous this quote: “The quality of our relationships determines the quality of our lives.”

That quality is a certain way of knowing. For the disciple of Jesus it is the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. Nothing can join two or more as deeply as koinonia.
