CRUST MODE
When we are dead inside… or almost dead or dying… we communicate and function from our outer Crust. Our Crust is a well-developed barrier and protection from outside influences. When we are in Crust Mode we respond emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually at a very thin surface level on most occasions. Even laughter, anger, surprise, joy and excitement only go in about a quarter of an inch and flatten out. Deflected. That is the Crust Mode.
But it also seems that anger; resentment, bitterness, disappointment and pain can creep through the Crust and lodge deeply within our internal functionary abilities and attitudes. The Crust seems to stop most positive functions and cannot stop the negative functions. This tough outer layer can also keep negative and destructive functions imbedded and difficult to release. They are stuck under the Crust.
The answer is obviously to remove the Crust. Whether an eggshell, a slice of bread or peeling on an orange or the Crust of an unhealthy personality, we must deal with the Crust Mode and make sure it protects us and does not destroy us. There are two basic ways to get through the Crust: Wild and frenzied crying or wild and frenzied laughing. It might be either/or or one and then the other or both together. It is armor and defense either way. One way is far better. We must shuck the corn when it is time to do so. The Crust needs Christ.
“This will give you an opportunity to testify. So make up your minds not to prepare your defense in advance, for I will give you words and a wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to withstand or contradict.” Jesus
