CROUTONS
Before I knew what Croutons were I was told one time to put these little crusty pieces of dried out bread on my salad. Of course… I asked, “Why would I do something like that and mess up my salad?” The answer was simple: “Because they are really good and you will like them and that’s what we do now. So get’m on there.” There you have it.
Croutons are little pieces of several days old stale bread chopped up into half-inch squares, and baked with some spices on them. But now it is not ‘old bread’ but “Classic Seasoned Old World Secret Recipe Croutons.” A slice and half of this stale bread now costs about $1.70 for 5 ounces (1 slice of stale bread) and $4.50 for 18 ounces (4 slices of stale bread) in a brightly colored Old World designed bag. But 18 ounces of Croutons only cost about as much as 18 ounces of gasoline. Whatever…
Now… no salad is complete without the stale bread on top. I suppose the secret is to just enjoy what we can enjoy and not fuss about old stale bread. Besides, it’s like licorice flavored Ice Cream… some people like it. I kinda like the Croutons myself.
I’m headed over to the other side of the Pond to relax and have some Cuban Coffee and Homemade Ginger Snaps and sit and throw little pieces of bread to the Bluegills and the ducks.
