OWNING OUR LOVE
We need to own our own love. Love is something that we were introduced to, accepted and eventually made it our own. It is not just some floating ‘out there, somewhere’ love that is without definition or degree. We have been loved and we make a choice to accept or reject love in a reciprocal way.
If the love we own (though it is given as a gift), we own as long as we are willing to give it away again. If there is a spiritual transfer of love it is because we have chosen to share the love of Christ with some one…. not just some arbitrary statement that God loves them, or God loves everybody. Most people received the Father’s love because someone who now owns that love told them about it and how they received it. Not that it is comparative…but I must own the love I have, as the Father owns his love. Whatever we have, we own. If we own something… we are responsible for it. If we are responsible for it…we give it away. That way we can keep it.
John, an apostle wrote, “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. We love because he first loved us.” (1 John 4:18-19)
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” Jesus
