LEARNING TO LISTEN

Without a proclivity for faith, revelation, inquiry and wisdom, we are left with only what others tell us and what others have written. We should know a great deal of what we know because we heard it while quietly sitting with the Lord. But to ever hope to leave “the questions that belong to the beginning of a Christian life, and let us go on to maturity” (Hebrews 6:1). We need to hear the voice of the Lord for ourselves. We of course learn from teachers, books and scripture, but wisdom comes from meditation and synthesizing all these sources by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Knowledge knows what we know and think and what to say. Wisdom knows whether to know it, think it and/or say it or not. Strangely, it can be as difficult to monitor what I write as what I think or say. Not being present with others can give false liberty and insincerity. We can be dead even though our heart is still beating and our lungs are still pumping and our keyboard still clicking and yet not give out life for our self and others.

Wisdom is living truth and light from the Son of God. We must hear from the Lord.
