THE THIRD TEMPTATION
Satan tempted Jesus for forty days and nights in the wilderness. The Third Temptation offered an opportunity to be a great leader with political power over vast kingdoms. The Gospel of Matthew 4:8-11,”The devil took him (Jesus) to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. “I will give it all to you,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me.”
“Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the Lord your God
and serve only him.’”
Then the devil went away, and angels came and took care of Jesus.”
Receiving recognition and ‘glory’ for being a big shot will always be a temptation… especially if it is political. The devil had one condition; the only condition was, “If you will kneel down and worship me”. Like the first and second temptations where Jesus refuted the devil with scripture, he knew the lie of “I will give it all to you” and “the glory” of giving him “the kingdoms of the world” and sternly said, “Get out of here Satan.” And once again he defeated the devil with scripture. ‘You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’
Our strongest chance of defeating Satan and his tricks is to know, speak, believe and be bathed in scripture and the words of the Lord.
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” Jesus
