WAKE-UP CALL
Many parts of our person can use an occasional wake-up. It seems we wander along the path looking for light, life, and love in various kinds of situations and we stumble upon some and stagger away from others, often in a sleepy melancholy way, mostly out of habit. Then, we get a wake-up call.
This call can be anything but it usually is an abrupt change from the way we are currently living our life. It might be our job, children, auto, finances, illness, or a number of things, but it wakes us up in some way.
George McDonald (1824-1905) calls this ‘having life in yourself; but waking up to the divine life inherited from God.’ He says wake-ups are to help us care for nothing in the universe as much as we care for ‘the will of God, which is love, harmony, liberty, beauty and joy.’ That’s always worth a wake-up call.
A Wake up call like September 11, 2001 will last for a lifetime. Never forget. Twenty years ago…never forget.
“And what I say to you I say to all: Keep awake.” Jesus
