SHARING THE MOUNTAIN
The mountain is an actual or symbolic experience. It is the moments of inspiration we receive ‘on the mountain’ or in private prayer and solitude. Though we receive privately and are blessed and changed by them they are to be shared with others and not totally consumed on ourselves. It is very easy for us to stay isolated, hidden and closed lipped about what the Lord is saying to us. But through careful observation we will see and be led to someone who needs what we received on the mountain, perhaps even more.
It is obvious from the pattern ministry of Jesus and the disciples that what was learned, seen and done in private was to be immediately taken to the poor, lonely, hungry, despised, homeless and sick… the people. They were called to share the mountain and so are we.
And after he (Jesus) had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone.
