REAL GRACE

One of the greatest mysteries of grace is that it is available without any work, effort, ability or performance on the part of the one who receives it. And furthermore, as soon as one tries some method or formula to have grace, then the trying itself is counter to the grace. And wouldn’t you know it, our generous God gives from the reservoir of grace and even lets us think and believe that we are somehow responsible for the grace that flows to us.

James Finley says, “It is helpful to remember that it is our trust in God’s oneness with us just as we are, and not as we are trying to be…what matters is our sincere intention to do our simple best.”

In matters of grace to do our best is to do nothing, at least in the perspectives of acceptance, deserving, earning and possessing grace.

Grace is a gift, and that being so often makes it more difficult to receive by those who have been formed by legalism, works, performance, religion, good grades, honor rolls and false egos. It takes real grace to receive real grace.
