WORLD RULERS
Scotty Smith, writer and prayer leader recently wrote,
“Daniel praised the God of Heaven. He said, ‘Praise the name of God forever and ever, for he has all wisdom and power. He controls the course of world events; he removes kings and sets up other kings.” (Daniel 2:19-21)
Heavenly Father, I wouldn’t want to live in Babylon, where Daniel and his friends lived in captivity for decades. As heart-concerning and angst-fueling as life in the USA is right now, I wouldn’t gladly trade places with Daniel, and enter his context of evil, predictable unpredictability and political chaos.
That being said, I (and a bunch of friends of this Gospel-prayer-posse) do want to know, love and trust you like Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego did.
It’s not so much they were great men to be emulated. It’s that you are such a great God to be worshiped, enjoyed and served. These guys lived in vital, robust relationship with you. In these coming months, do this same work in our hearts Father…by the truth and power of the Gospel.
Renew, refresh, restore in us our first love for Jesus; and heart-trust in you, Abba… the one who “controls the course of the world events” and our confidence in God the Holy Spirit, “to remove kings and set up other kings.”
No matter how we feel compelled to vote this year in November, may we be a 1000 times more compelled to trust and serve you. You’re not calling us to be passive, fearful, or cynical. You are calling us to remember there’s only one unshakable Kingdom and one eternal King…the Lord Jesus. So very Amen we pray, in his righteous and reigning name.”
“In this world the kings and great men lord it over their people, yet they are called ‘friends of the people.’ But among you it will be different. Those who are the greatest among you should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant.” Jesus
