DIGGING IRISES
We recently had to dig up our Irises and divide them to make them healthy and able to grow well. After doing this I happened upon this quote, “Only so, by division, will hope increase, like a clump of irises, which will cease to flower unless you distribute the clustered roots, unlikely source—clumsy and earth-covered—of grace.” Denise Levertov (1923-1997) American poet.
Digging Iris is like God’s promise to Abraham in Hebrews 6, “I will surely bless you and I will surely multiply you.” And so, having patiently waited, he obtained the promise.” As we will.
This is a real math puzzle: we divide to multiply. The day they taught math in grammar school I was absent, but I still learned that 4×4=44. So it wasn’t a total loss.
“Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times.” Jesus
