SIMPLICITY AND PURITY
Paul, an apostle, wrote, “But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.” (2 Corinthians 11:3)
This is the monster of the mind, to be taken in our minds from the ‘simple and pure devotion to Christ.’ The mind loves to chase ways of making itself bigger, broader and ‘more prepared.’ Attempts at better prayer, better discipline, better giving practices, better living, better marriage, can all be good and acceptable, but they also can be ways to avoid ‘simple and pure devotion to Christ.’ What is this devotion except time alone in silence? It is where real lovers always want to be.
“These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.” Jesus
