THE CONDEMNING HEART
The apostle John wrote, “By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him; for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything.”
(1 John 3:19-20)
I think a lot of condemnation has come from times of being unsure of our heart and not unsure of our message …the gospel. The Good News of Jesus is really quite simple and candid and upfront. What is not so simple and candid is our heart. Our heart can be soft and puffy with intimidation and fear. John, in the above text says, “we are of the truth and reassure our hearts before him.”
The apostle continues, “ Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God.” (v. 21) There is a condition: “whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.” (v. 22)
“God is greater than our hearts”… Yoo Hooo!
Off to the other side of the pond to lick my condemned heart wounds. Thank you, Lord.
