THE BIG SHOT
In our history of walking upright it seems one of us has always wanted to be The Big Shot. The early ones had more fingers, more toes, more wives, more clubs, more rocks, more caves, more spears…more fires, less hair, or more tattoos, whatever.
It seems little different now. Big Shots want to promote more influence, more fingers, more toes, more money, more bones in their nose, more property, more gifts, more robes, more religious stuff, more degrees, more opinion, more blogs, more likes, more, more and more. The self will always want more of self until given over to Jesus for the sake of the Kingdom where self must die.
This is nothing new. In the book of Third John we read where Diotrephes ‘loves to have the pre-eminence.’ He could not allow others to express and be gifted. He needed to be a Big Shot. Big Shots are easy to spot: They are centered on themselves and little else.
“What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.” Jesus
