THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE
To have new life there must be an exchange of the old life. Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life, he who believes in me shall live when he dies” (John 11:25). These two, resurrection and life, are completely connected. They are dependent on each other. All new life is resurrection life. What God does not do is resurrect old life. Old life must die and then new life shall come. There is no resurrection until there is first a death. This is not the final death, the ‘second death,’ but daily death. It is death to self, ambition, ego and self-preservation.
The question is not ‘Do we believe in the resurrection?’ but do we desire a resurrection in our own life? To believe in the resurrection of Christ is to believe what happened to Him. Jesus is offering the same resurrection to each of us. But before asking if we desire to be resurrected, we must first ask if we desire to live, because one comes before the other. Resurrection is not future; it is eternal.
