SHOULD NOT BOAST

Ahab the King of Israel was in a battle with Ben-hadad the King of Aram (Syria) and was outnumbered by thousands of soldiers. Ahab was trying to protect Samaria (the capital city of Israel). Ben-hadad made many threats and demands of Ahab and finally the Israelite King said this:

“Tell him, ‘A man who puts on [his armor to go to battle] should not boast like the man who takes it off [after the battle has been won].’

I have always liked this quote and Ahab did win the battle but was disobedient in not finishing the Lord’s command to destroy Ben-hadad. He won the battle but not the war. This is good advice and a sound warning: Finish the job.
