KNOWLEDGE AND WISDOM
“To attain knowledge, add things everyday. To attain wisdom, remove things every day.”
Lao Tse (601-531BC)
Knowledge is relatively easy to attain especially in our digital, Internet, Facebook, social media, Wikipedia, cell phone, computer…click, click…world. Anyone can know the weather, stock market, grocery sales, car prices, clothing fads, church stuff, and a thousand other things… many of them mindless…in seconds.
Wisdom on the other hand is not so easy. Lao Tse is correct in that wisdom is usually getting rid of things including knowledge of various kinds. What is needed for wisdom is silence and solitude, being quiet in front of the Lord and in front of ourselves. The way of wisdom is when we do not concern ourselves if others want to know what we know or not. There you have it.
“But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.” Jesus
