FINAL AUTHORITY
God made us. God sustains us, and God has authority over us. We are His responsibility. The Bible is filled with accounts of men and women and how they relate, or don’t relate with God and His authority. Today, the world is filled with men and women and how they relate, or don’t relate with God and his authority.
The issue goes far beyond questions like, “Are we saved?” We may be, but are we willfully and wonderfully under authority? Many are not because of bad authority experiences with humans, and that’s too bad. Nearly everyone has some goofy story about that stuff. It is unfortunate that bad experiences with man can make us rebels to God.
Final authority must come from the Original Authority. It is passed along through faithful channels and faithful people, but the final word is the Word of God: The Word of God written and the Word of God spoken. To obey one and not the other is less than full life and full authority. To obey neither is no life and no authority. To obey both is peace. Peace is living under the government of righteousness and justice, which is the government of God which is his Kingdom.
Our authority never fails because “love never fails” (1 Corinthians 13:8), and “God is love” (1 John 4:8). We may not realize it, but we want authority over us. God already has the right to that Authority so we might as well submit and respond to Him.
“When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when a wicked man rules, the people groan.” (Proverbs 29:2)
“‘All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth.” Jesus
