NEVER HUNGRY OR THIRSTY
Jesus said, “I am the Bread of Life. He who comes to me will never be hungry, and he who believes in and cleaves to and trusts in and relies on me will never thirst any more (at any time).” (Amplified Bible)
It appears we must ‘come to him’ to get rid of our hunger and we must ‘believe in him’ to get rid of our thirst. The hunger issue is the gnawing inside of never feeling we have all the things we need for peace, comfort, faith, joy and the deeper issues of life. We rarely seem to be satisfied. The thirst issue is the lack of sufficient internal evidence to satisfy our trust in the things of God…the promises of the Lord. We are left thirsting for more and wondering how to get it.
The coming and believing is not a one-time matter. I think it is one of his main reasons for instituting the Lord’s Supper. Each time we have the Bread and the Wine, the Body and Blood, we remember that we are coming and believing and our hunger and thirst are quenched.
“This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” Jesus
