GREATER WORKS
The Gospel of John chapter 13 records the ‘washing of feet’ at the Last Supper. Then in John 14:12 Jesus says, “the works that I do shall he do also and greater works than these shall he do, because I go to the Father.”
The greater work is ‘lower’ than washing feet John 13:1-17 of washing feet. We go ‘lower’ which is ‘greater’ because we have learned “the way of the Master” (v.16). Greater is not “the work that I do you shall do also” (14:12), because greater is lower than washing feet. Just before in John 13:34-35 He refers to the “new commandment of love” and proceeds to “the Father’s house” and “greater works.” You will reveal the Father in great ways (14:27-31) we will show the Father by our faith and actions.
Greater is Lower- less obvious than washing feet (13:1-17). Simple, loving, gracious actions are the greater work.
What is greater than healing the blind? Loving blind people who are not healed.
What is greater than raising the dead? Mourning with those left behind after someone dies.
What is greater than calming the sea? Having mercy on the fearful. Etc., Etc. This is Greater Work.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.” Jesus
