THE HOLY PLACE
A major change from the Old Covenant and the New is the dwelling place of the Lord. In the Old it was a physical building, tent or structure. In the New it is the believer… Holy People are the Holy Place. The Lord inhabits us as his temple. The apostle Paul wrote, “For we are the temple of the living God.” And again Paul wrote, “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God?”
Psalms 22 records that “the Lord inhabits the praises of his people.” So in us… the inhabited temple of the Lord… the same Lord inhabits our praise of him in his temple. Our songs, instruments, speaking in tongues, talking, prayer, meditation, contemplation, silence… are all inhabited by the Lord.
Out of our hearts we offer up a sacrifice of praise. Instead of Old Covenant sacrifice of animals with rituals… we offer sacrifice of the heart of worship. The Book of Hebrews says, “Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.”
