DEALING WITH TRUTH
Truth and defining truth is tricky business. Many times as Christians we simply say that Jesus is truth because he said, “I am the truth.” But even so… what does that mean? That leaves a wide open door.
If Jesus is truth then in my lifetime I have seen truth defined dozens of ways meaning Jesus has been defined in as many ways. Thus, truth has been defined in a similar number of ways.
Truth must become very simple in some ways. It is what we each determine by our learning, experience and preference to be ‘the truth.’ My truth may be a little different than yours… but it is still my truth. I really don’t know how important it actually is to be able to define and defend truth other than to live in complete honesty and integrity to what we believe. Real truth rarely needs defended…it is obvious.
“The truth is a trap: you cannot get it without it getting you; you cannot get the truth by capturing it, only by its capturing you.” Soren Kierkegaard (1813-1855).
“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.” Jesus
