CREATIVE LOVE
The Spirit is creative because true love is creative. It is easy to confuse love with bargaining or making a deal. ‘You give me something and I will give you something.’ ‘You are smiling at me…I will smile at you.’ ‘If you give me no greeting, I will give you no greeting.’ You would not help me out, I will not help you out.’ All of this is giving by ‘rule.’ This creates human relationships that are deadlocked even among those we love.
The person who loves even when love isn’t returned and gives greeting even when he receives none, is creating something fresh, bringing something positive and breaking up the deadlocks. This is a creative spirit and this person proceeds in life from this creative spirit. This kind of love is the love parents have for their children. Parents are not devoted to their children because they are good or grateful, but because they love them unconditionally. If we demonstrate love like this with our children, why is it so rare that we demonstrate love like this with our neighbors, colleagues and friends? Love like this creates more love. We will lose nothing but our pride to give in to this creative love and understanding. We stop making bargains for love and recognition. Our creative love is our recognition.
“If you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.” Jesus
