NIGHT TIME #1
There is probably no better verse to describe most of my night time sleep than this text from the Song of Songs: “I was asleep, but my heart was awake.” Of course this is an exchange of the bride and bridegroom in this text… but the one line is so appropriate for me.
I consider this a privilege most of the time. When my heart is awake seems to be the time for new insights, thoughts, dreams, revelations and quiet communication. So often I wonder if I am awake or asleep. I suppose it is also true that when I am asleep and my heart is not awake… little is received in my heart.
I think some of this habit is from practice through the years and some of it is just the way I’m made. I believe others can sleep all night and have their heart open at other times. I am not proposing a method but simply saying this because perhaps you too sleep but your heart is awake.
“Sleep and take your rest later on. See, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.” Jesus
