BECOMING LESS POSSESSIVE
The process of becoming is for everyone is a life-long giving up of self and possessions. There is no easy way about this because every part of us is made to possess. In the physical, the eyes see until their focus is complete and the ears hear until they are tuned in just right, and the nose smells both foul and fresh, odors of warning and pleasant fragrances, like pine trees, flowers, baby powder and gun powder. When each sense is complete, even for a second, then that part of us comes to rest (i.e., the eye has seen, the ear has heard, the nose has smelled).
It does not mean they have ceased to see and hear and smell, but they have for the instant come to rest. When they do not, they become restless because they have not possessed. Our minds are cognitive and process thoughts into knowledge and reason and thus possess that knowledge and for a fraction of a second in time the cognitive impulse rests. When it cannot possess it is restless. From this restlessness comes the blight of boredom. Boredom happens when our minds, soul and body are not possessing as intended. We cease to see, to hear and to smell the things we should. We cease to reason as we should and our souls cease to know certain things and so we are left empty because of a lack of possession.
“Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light, but when it is bad, your body is full of darkness.” Jesus
