APPRECIATION
“I believe that appreciation is a holy thing, that when we look for what’s best in the person we happen to be with at the moment, we’re doing what God does; so in appreciating our neighbor, we’re participating in something truly sacred.” Fred Rogers, ‘Mister Rogers’ (1928-2003)
Appreciation is a form of grace for both parties. To appreciate someone requires being less centered on oneself and appreciating the other person. The other person is humbled by true and genuine appreciation. This is why it is a holy thing and truly sacred. Being less self-centered and humble are actions of grace that are characteristic of the Father.
As with grace, appreciation quickly turns to gratefulness. We want to thank the Lord and others who have shown appreciation to us or have been appreciated by us. Appreciation will help us look for the best in each other and give thanks to the Father.
(On cleansing the ten lepers) “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.” Jesus
