THE RED
In trying to keep up with the name game that is going on in church world, I thought I would try to shorten the Red Mountain Journal. I keep noticing that churches are changing all long names and self-identifying names out on their signboards. So, we really don’t know who anyone is anymore.
The names go like this: The Well, The Vine, The Rock, The River, The Bucket, The Birdbath, The Creek, The Mist, The House, The Fog, The Grist Mill, The Flower Pot, The Envelope, The Back, The Front, The Jug, The Side, The Door, The Crock, The Window, The Chimney, The Fence, The Lawn, The Bottle, The Hook, The Can, The Tub, The Frost, The Sun, The Moon, The Stars, The Shotgun, and many other such short names are used to identify various congregations.
So I thought I would try The Red… too short and tells you nothing…or maybe tells you I am a communist. The Mountain (not too bad)… but really doesn’t explain much either. Then The Journal… and who knows if it is a newspaper or what it is? I am left in some contradiction in all of these attempts. For one thing, unlike most of the newly named churches, I don’t have smoke and lights and loud music and a worship leader with tight jeans with holes in the knees and I don’t have a preacher with four or five days of beard growth in tight jeans with a shirttail hanging out. I guess I am just not with it. Being so old-fashioned I am just going to stick with the Red Mountain Journal newspaper or whatever it is…
